About Us

Based in Rathcoole, County Dublin we offer restaurants, hotels and food caterers the very best meat produced in Ireland.

We’re proud of a history which has always been about traditional butchery that puts the quality of the produce and the satisfaction of the customers first. Our story begins in 1990 when company founders Michael Bermingham and Karl Freeman completed their butcher’s apprenticeships.

Forming M&K Meats from a store in Drimnagh, Dublin in 1991 the company offered local retail sales and also began building up the wholesale side of the business. We always enjoyed having that local butcher shop feel and were proud to support the local children’s football team of Lissadel United. We also annually contribute meat hampers to St. Vincent de Paul the largest, voluntary, charitable organisation in Ireland.

In 1993 we moved to a larger shop in Tallaght, Dublin 24 and began hitting our wholesale stride leasing cold storage space in Crumlin, Dublin from where we served our catering clients by gradually building a small fleet of delivery vehicles and working up a design for a custom built meat processing factory with a quality meat preparation focus.

Working closely with the Department of Agriculture we finalised the design and began construction of the factory in 2003 at Greenogue, County Dublin processing orders for the hotel, restaurant and catering industry across Ireland, whilst continuing to provide retail sales from our on-site shop & trade counter. In 2009 we took the next step opening up our online retail store The Market Butcher which offers our full range of meats and cuts to customers across the country.

Our hands on, small business feel means that our produce and our customers really mean something to us; quality of products and service is amongst the best in Ireland with 99% of the best restaurants buying their meat from us and voting us the Best Catering Supplier award in 2007.
